LETTER: Creeping Liberal taxes are making Singh look good

'For God's sake, don't you think it's time to right the ship and for the Liberal party to quit pandering for votes?'

PelhamToday received this letter from a reader asserting that the federal government doesn't sufficiently assist seniors:

I can't abide the Liberal creep with taxes, especially on a few things we enjoy like beer, wine and spirits.

You're making Jagmeet Singh look good, as your party creeps increasingly left to pay for all your social programs like dental for families earning under $90,000, and $10- a-day daycare— without any political party really offering any relief for seniors of really any substance.

I'm a senior, and just had to lay out $2,000 for a new dental crown. Where's the help for me? You guys want the seniors to spend every last dollar we have saved over a lifetime before we qualify for any relief or help!

I've been retired for over 16 years, and my old-age pension is really pitiful, with no real visible increase in all those years.

Our household utility bills are out of sight, and the HST/GST on them was never fair, as most of our time is spent at home where we can't turn the thermostat down in winter, and yes, we need air conditioning in summer too!

When are you going to give seniors a real break, as we've paid more taxes over a lifetime, yet you give all the tax breaks to Generation Xers, who were allowed to bury themselves in debt with crazy low interest rates, which made housing out of reach for everyone.

The federal debt is about $31 trillion, and the average household debt means the average Canadian owes about $1.80 for every dollar we earn.

For God's sake, don't you think it's time to right the ship and for the Liberal party to quit pandering for votes?
