'This is an important question during these challenging economic times'

PelhamToday received the following letter to the editor from a reader regarding regional transit:

After reading that the Welland mayor wants more facts, more figures to deny or affirm support for Niagara transportation, it’s time again to ask what the benefit is to Pelham. (There are years ahead of paying for the MCC.) Niagara Region will look at making a final decision in February.

How many of Pelham citizens will avail themselves to ride on a regular basis? It would be wonderful to know it’s available but is it affordable? Food prices going up more in February, gas already high, water taxation higher along with rent and cost of borrowing.

What will Pelham’s contribution actually be, for how long before it rises? What will we get for said participation? What is the cost to every taxpayer? This is an important question during these challenging economic times.

Pelham taxpayers have a narrow window of time to both listen and be heard. One albatross is already one too many, however appealing .
