Sweetheart Market makes a popular prelude to Valentine's Day

Inaugural event at MCC sees huge turnout

Stephanie DeCicco, of Port Colborne, along with her cousin Andrea, of Pelham, operates a weekend gig called Niagara Local Events, creating various showcases across the Niagara region. The Sweetheart Market, held on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 5, was their first venture into Fonthill.

It was clearly a hit, packing capacity crowds into the Accursi Room at the Meridian Community Centre all afternoon. About 50 vendors were in attendance, selling crafts, edibles, and romantic items such as scented candles. Admission was free.

“We used primarily social media and word-of-mouth to attract vendors and attendees,” said DeCicco. “Obviously, we were very pleased with the huge turnout.”

DeCicco had a table at the event for her own product, Cheeky Boards, which offers Italian-style charcuterie boards and boxes of cured meats and cheeses for discriminating palates.
