Package with 4 kg of 'illegal narcotics' surfaced in St. Catharines

Niagara Regional Police detectives are investigating an international package containing illegal drugs.

In early January, detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) were contacted by officers from the Canada Border Service Agency.  Detectives were alerted to a package that had been shipped to Canada and found to contain illegal narcotics. The package, which contained approximately four kilograms of ketamine was destined for a St. Catharines address. Originating from Germany, the package had an approximate street value of $145,000.

Detectives from the 1 District – St. Catharines Street Crime Unit were assigned to the investigation and were assisted by detectives from the NRPS Special Investigative Services Unit.  

On Jan. 24, 2023, as a result of the ongoing investigation, a search warrant was executed at a St. Catharines residence.

Xuan Anh Vo, 64, of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Import schedule I substance of more than one kilogram – Sec. 6(1) CDSA
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Sec. 5(2) CDSA

Vo was held in custody for a video bail hearing to be held Jan.25, 2023, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
