Police investigating fatal collision in St. Catharines

Police say a 74-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene

On March 15, 2023, at 9:30 a.m., Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Vine Street / Scott Street in the City of St. Catharines.

Upon arrival, officers determined a 29-year-old man from the Town of Lincoln was operating a white Freightliner box truck when a collision occurred with a blue Toyota Matrix that was being operated by a 74-year-old woman from the City of St. Catharines. As a result of the collision, the 74-year-old woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Vine Street / Scott Street intersection was closed for approximately nine hours as detectives assigned to our Collision Reconstruction Unit and Forensic Services Unit conducted their initial on-scene investigation. The circumstances related to the cause of the collision remain under investigation.
