St. Catharines man, woman arrested in firearms investigation

Niagara police have located a double-barrel shotgun on a bed in a residence on Queentson Street near Church Street in St. Catharines.

In March 2023, the 1 District – St. Catharines / Thorold Street Crime Unit of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) began a firearms investigation in St. Catharines.

The investigation led to two suspects and a residence on Queentson Street near Church Street in St. Catharines. On March 23, at approximately 11:30 a.m., detectives executed a search warrant at the residence. Officers with the NRPS Emergency Task Unit (ETU) assisted detectives. The road was closed briefly while police were arresting the two suspects. While searching the residence, the officers located a double-barrel shotgun on a bed. The serial number on the shotgun has been removed. Detectives also found 9 mm and 22 calibre ammunition. During the search of the woman, police found shotgun ammunition.

Daniel Oliver Price, 56, of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • Possess prohibited firearm with no license
  • Possess prohibited firearm knowing no license
  • Possess firearm serial number tampered with
  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possess firearm, weapon, or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

Sarah Catharine Utman, 45, of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • Possess prohibited firearm with no license
  • Possess prohibited firearm knowing no license
  • Possess firearm serial number tampered with
  • Careless storage of a firearm

Price and Utman were both held in custody to appear at a video bail hearing at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on March 24.
