There is a gem of an organization located in Fonthill that should receive a standing ovation or maybe a trumpet blast. It goes about its important mission quietly and efficiently without blowing its own horn. That organization is known as Wellspring Cancer Support Centre and is located immediately across from the Meridian Community Center on Wellspring Way. It serves a base of clientele who are from across Niagara.

Its presence in Fonthill may not be widely familiar because it has such a highly specialized mission to serve the needs of those diagnosed with cancer. The building is likely recognized by some because it is located on an active thoroughfare across from the busy Meridian Community Centre.

I was unfamiliar with this enterprise until after I was diagnosed with cancer. I am now a member of that organization and taking advantage of its mission to support people diagnosed with that disease. It has a wide variety of programs specifically designed to support victims who suffer from this terrible illness.

I was very impressed by the facility, the staff, the programs and the volunteers. They offer an introductory program for prospective clients offered by peers of those with cancer, and I took advantage of that program to learn more about the organization and its mission. As well, their website is very informative and welcoming.

By the way, it is important to note that all of their wide variety of programs are offered free of charge to cancer victims. Personally, I am engaged with a discussion group of men afflicted with prostate cancer. These small and informal gatherings are excellent as learning from the experiences of others is an important step in one’s fight against this specific form of the disease. Occasionally, this group invites specialists who are associated with some form of treatment for those afflicted by the disease.

Being diagnosed with cancer can be a life-changing experience. At one time not too long ago those words were ever more devastating than they are today due to the advancements in the treatment for many versions of the disease. Many of the clientele using programs at Wellspring are courageously fighting their disease with exercise as well as attending treatment regimes such as radiation, hormone and chemotherapy. Many residents are undergoing these treatment regimes right here in Niagara, whereas these cancer treatments were previously only available in Hamilton and Toronto facilities. The Walker Family Cancer treatment facility at the St. Catharines Hospital is not only more convenient for Niagara residents but is widely recognized as being among the best.

I have also joined one of the exercise programs offered by the Wellspring Centre. Physiotherapists assess each client and design a series of exercises to meet the specific needs of each participant. The well-equipped exercise facility is staffed by qualified exercise experts who ensure the client is getting maximum benefit from their exercise routine.

The Wellspring cancer care facility is hugely popular among cancer victims and their families. It accepts clientele from all sectors of the population regardless of income level. It is genuinely worthy of being supported by all charitable gift givers who contribute to worthy causes.
