LETTER: Do dogs need glasses for the eclipse?

'I don't know if people are lazy, fed up or have lost sight of the big picture, but people seem to be getting stupider or more reckless or maybe both,' writes reader

PelhamToday received the following letter from a reader with questions about the eclipse.

I live in Ridgeway. I think as cool as this eclipse is, there is not enough caution being taken.

I work with kids under six. Yes, most will be able to understand - leave your glasses on - what about the kids that don't? Are we going to have an explosion of children under a certain age who have eye issues or are blind?

What about traffic?  It's almost time. Let's stop in the middle of the road - crash. Theft -  a bunch of people staring at the sun in a crowded area. It is a pick-pocketers dream.

Animals - People bring their dogs with them to see the eclipse. Should dogs get glasses?

I'm older. I try to be a positive person, but I don't see a positive outcome. I don't know if people are lazy, fed up or have lost sight of the big picture, but people seem to be getting stupider or more reckless or maybe both.

I genuinely hope things go well, but I'm skeptical. I will have all the blinds closed in the house to reduce the risk to my animals. I will be in my backyard, glasses on, for the event.

These are my opinions.

Stay safe.
