PelhamToday received the following letter from reader Bruce Timms:

Congratulations to Pelham Town Council for setting up environment and climate adaptation committee, a very practical approach to climate change.

The works department report on drainage makes it clear that adapting to more severe rain storms is going to be expensive and also the need for adaptation is short-term and immediate.

The storms and flooding are coming much faster than any mitigation of climate change.

Mitigation is important in the long-term timeline, but the 100-year storms are happening now and municipalities have to adapt now. The NPCA can help with that.

The committee is welcome and needs to work quickly.
