The problems are more tan COVID, write readers Graham and Edie Platt

PelhamToday received the following letter about declining attendance at the farmers market.

As this market celebrates its 20th anniversary and having frequented it regularly over these 20 years, we are very disappointed with the diminished attendance we've witnessed over the past number of years.

We just can't blame it on COVID. While we know there are many "green-minded" citizens of Pelham, somehow the connection doesn't always get made that if we are to keep this place "green" then we need to act "green."

One small "green" act that can be easily done is to come out to the market to show your support for our local farmers and craft food makers. These are our neighbours who farm Pelham's pristine agricultural lands, including the Greenbelt. If we want these farmers to stay on the land, surely they deserve to make a decent living. And a secondary benefit. It's a welcoming place to talk with the people who grow and make our food, and maybe even meet up with old acquaintances, former neighbours or even some newbies to Pelham.

So please take 15 minutes a week (even every other week) to do this simple act of "green." At the end of the day, we all win. See you at the market.

Graham and Edie Pett,
Fonthill
