LETTER: Pelham has yet to declare states of emergency on important issues

PelhamToday received the following letter to the editor from reader Steven Soos, providing an update on the mental health, housing affordability and addiction movement in Niagara Region.

10/13 of Niagara-area municipalities acknowledge and take action on the emergency-crisis.

Niagara area municipalities that have declared state of emergency on mental health, homelessness and addiction:
-City of Niagara Falls
-City of Thorold
-City of Welland
-Town of Grimsby
-Niagara Region (Town of Fort Erie supported Niagara Region's state of emergency on mental health, homelessness and addiction).

Niagara area municipalities that have declared mental health, housing affordability and addiction a crisis:
-City of St. Catharines (also asked the provincial government to declare an Ontario-wide state of emergency on mental health, homelessness and addiction.
-Town of Wainfleet
-City of Port Colborne

Niagara area municipalities that have supported a comprehensive review of the Ontario emergency management and civil protection act (as a 34-year old piece of legislation cannot be our only tool to tackling these issues. These issues are evolving and we need to evolve with them as a community and society).

-Niagara Region
-Town of Lincoln

Town of Pelham, Town of Niagara on the Lake and Town of West Lincoln have yet to move motions on the emergency-crisis for mental health, housing affordability and addiction.

In addition, a summit on the mental health, housing affordability, (poverty) and addiction emergency-crisis at the Wellness Complex in the City of Welland last Saturday and footage from this event will continue to be uploaded on the Small Scale Farms Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/smallscalefarming/
