PelhamToday received the following letter to the editor from a reader regarding the Fonthill library:

One thousand dollars a square foot, or $5.4 million isn’t enough for a new library, according to Pelham CAO David Cribbs. The square footage rose from 8,000 square feet 2019 to 18,000 square feet in 2022.

One thousand dollars per square foot appears high, yet unchanged. This is a capital project and the numbers matter to Pelham taxpayers. To suggest possible closure because of missing elevator is untenable. Will 18,000 square feet be the final number? What is included in total cost? Is the increase in cost possibly as a result of attaching to MCC?

Statista.com is an international construction pricing organization. It is worth checking for comparable building costs.

What does the municipality plan to do to fix the problem of the highly valued Fonthill library, lack of required elevator and important public opinion?
