PelhamToday received the following letter regarding the lack of federal court judges and the effect it could have on justice:

Bravo to James Culic for giving media attention to "The Curious Case of the Fonthill Butcher." Curiosity is deserving of a super-powerful microscope here. Just one of the underlying issues is that there are currently 78 federal court judge postings that remain unfilled. This equates to a 10 percent deficit in Ontario, "a perpetual crisis" said Canada's Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin in a recent Toronto Star article.

There must be full public accountability and disclosure from the Crown's office as to the reasons why this case keeps getting remanded and the trial has not yet begun

The unfortunate result filters down to our local butcher not being brought to justice in a timely manner. After 38 court remands, the trial has still not begun. Will these charges "disappear" because justice will be seen as having been denied?

There must be full public accountability and disclosure from the Crown's office as to the reasons why this case keeps getting remanded and the trial has not yet begun.

Disclosure from the Crown's office to the public regarding these delays does not violate any publication ban pertinent to trial details. We are left wondering: where is the justice for these victims?
