In late December the Pelham Historical Society (PHS) presented a $2,000 cheque to the Nature Conservancy of Canada – Lathrop Nature Preserve (NCC). The funds represented an interim installment on the net proceeds earned from sales of the first print run of the book The Land at the Crest of the Hill: Clues to Niagara History from Upper Fonthill, published by PHS. All proceeds from the sale of the book had been donated to the historical society by the author on the understanding that the net proceeds after print and distribution costs would be allocated 80 per cent to NCC and 20 per cent to PHS. PHS would like to thank the local retailers who carried the book and Shoppers Drug Mart in particular who have sold close to 150 copies to date and took no retail margin. The first print run of the book sold out in mid-December but fortunately a second print run arrived in time for Christmas.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is the nation's leading not-for-profit, private land conservation organization, working to protect our most important natural areas and the species they sustain. Since 1962, NCC and its partners have helped to protect more than 15 million hectares, coast to coast to coast, with more than 243,000 hectares in Ontario. The 60 acre Lathrop Nature Preserve located in the heart of Fonthill represents a very important part of the Town of Pelham’s rich natural heritage.

The Pelham Historical Society encourages an interest in and knowledge of the history of the Town of Pelham, Niagara Region and our provincial and national historical heritage. It collects information and artifacts of the Town of Pelham to ensure their preservation. PHS also encourages scholarly research into the history of the Town of Pelham and disseminates information by publishing, displaying, marking historical sites and sponsoring presentations of historical interest. https://www.pelhamhistoricalsociety.ca/
