BROCK FOR PALESTINE

ST. CATHARINES – Brock University students of a new campus coalition, Brock for Palestine, did a silent protest for Palestine at Brock University’s convocation at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024. Brock for Palestine released an open letter to the University’s President and administration with three demands. This action is part of convocation protests that have been happening across Canada and the world.
Undergraduate student Yasmeen Elgarf said, “There are no more universities in Gaza and no one can be educated in Gaza. As Brock students we should stand in solidarity and support with Gaza students and call for a ceasefire.”
The Brock for Palestine statement demands the University:
- Acknowledge and condemn Israel's genocidal acts, apartheid and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire;
- Cut any academic ties and partnerships with Israeli institutions as well as academics and thinkers who have spoken and/or written in favour of the violent Zionist occupation; and
- Affirm and protect pro-Palestinian voices and actions on campus and promise no sanctions, including but not limited to academic suspension and expulsion, on students who engage in pro-Palestinian sentiments and actions.
Brock for Palestine is a coalition of undergraduate and graduate Brock University students as well as faculty and staff who are raising the issue of Palestine at Brock University’s convocation.
