Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) were joined by local MPP Sam Oosterhoff, Member of Provincial Parliament for Niagara West joined for a donation showcase event on Thursday of locally-grown chicken to Pelham Cares.
Chicken farmers announced the donation of over 350 kg of chicken, which will contribute to over 3,000 meals for families and individuals in need through Pelham Cares, the CFO said in a news release.
The donation was made through the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program, which enables chicken farmers to donate their chicken to food banks across the province.
“Thanks to the continued dedication of the Ontario chicken farming community who donate their chicken to food banks year-round, since 2015, the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program has donated over eight million chicken meals," said Andrea Veldhuizen, CFO board director for CFO Cares.
"Proteins like chicken are among some of the most-needed items at food banks and we want to ensure that Ontario communities and food banks have a steady supply of safe, healthy, locally-grown chicken.”
The program contributes over 1 million meals a year to local food banks, working in partnership with Feed Ontario, the province's food bank association.
