Four years in jail for Welland Rd. drunk driver

Timothy Climenhaga plowed into residence at foot of Haist St. last November

A driver with a history of arrests for impaired driving has been sent to jail for plowing into the front of a home on Welland Road last November, and for an earlier impaired incident in Wainfleet.

According to reporting Wednesday by the Niagara Falls Review, Judge Deborah Calderwood, in the Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines, on Tuesday sentenced Timothy Climenhaga, 48, to four years in jail, less about six months for time already served, for impaired driving causing bodily harm and impaired driving, and banned him from driving for eight years.

Climenhaga drunkenly crashed into the residence at the foot of Haist Street on November 20 2023.

Climenhaga’s name had appeared just two months earlier on the Niagara Regional Police’s impaired driving list for an incident in Wainfleet. According to the Review report, Climenhaga struck and seriously injured a cyclist in September 2023, whose injuries were “life-altering and likely ended her chosen career,” said Judge Calderwood on Tuesday.

On Welland Road, two empty bottles of vodka were found in Climenhaga’s truck and he was discovered attempting to flee the scene through the damage he had created at the front of the house according to the report.
