Earth Week in Pelham focuses on green initiatives within the community, including a community expo and the return of the annual clean-up day that takes place across the town on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

The one-day Pelham community clean-up invites area residents to Pitch in and volunteer to remove litter from neighbourhood streets, parks, and playgrounds. Registered participants will receive supplies to assist their efforts, and they are invited to register in advance. The kick-off for all participants will take place at the Meridian Community Centre as teams and families from across Pelham get ready to clean up in areas across the community.

“Earth Week is a great opportunity for the community to come together and help create a greener community,” said Town of Pelham Director of Recreation, Culture, and Wellness Vickie vanRavenswaay. “There are many ways that residents can get involved, from helping to clean up garbage to planting trees—small changes that can positively impact the environment for years to come.”

Part of the "Go Green" events include the community eco-expo on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Meridian Community Centre. The community eco-expo provides residents the opportunity to learn about local environmental organizations and the importance of Earth Week initiatives. This year, the expo will include representatives from Pelham Advocates for Trees and Habitat (PATH), the Rotary Club of Fonthill tree giveaway and local businesses that support eco-efforts.

Local businesses and community groups can also participate in year-round clean-up programs through the Town of Pelham’s Adopt a Road initiative. Through the initiative, participants volunteer to pick up litter in Parks, along Trails, and on designated 2 km stretches of town roads. The town provides vests, safety information, road work signs, trash bags, flags, traffic cones and more to support the clean-ups.
