MAYOR'S MESSAGE: Back in the saddle!

junkin-gavel

Editor’s note: So as to avoid offering any undue advantage or the appearance of such advantage, once campaigning got underway last summer for the 2022 municipal election, the Voice stopped running Mayor Marvin Junkin’s weekly column. With the new council and PelhamToday both now settling in to their work, we’ve invited the Mayor back to keep us in the loop on what’s happening inside Town Hall.

Hello Pelham! It has been approximately seven months since my last column, so when the editor offered me the opportunity to resume writing I jumped at the chance. While past columns were centred around Covid this time I will be writing on a wider variety of topics.

On a personal level, the Junkin family was blessed with two new members. John arrived on July 1 and Teddy on December 23. I am happy to report both grandsons are healthy and making sure their respective parents are not getting too much sleep.

On the farm front, the 2022 growing season was excellent with an abundance of moisture, which isn’t always the case here in Niagara, especially during July and August. Both hay and soybean yields were above average, proving once again that with adequate moisture, the soils of Niagara can compete with the rest of the province.

And, of course, there was an election! The voters of Pelham once again bestowed upon me the honour of being Mayor, a task that I look forward to fulfilling over the next four years. Three newcomers were voted to council as first-time members joining the three incumbents. Judging by its performance over the past two months, I believe this council will serve the people of Pelham well and will make the hard decisions needed to keep our community the great place we all chose to live in.

I look forward in the weeks ahead to keep the residents of Pelham updated on Town business—which is your business.

Great to be back!
