MAYOR'S MESSAGE: Smoky skies may mean reduced crops

Plus: Still don't have a civic address sign at your farm? Act now

Wow! Hard to believe that June is history, and the days are getting shorter! The days of smoke are certainly adding a new dimension to the summer and are raising concerns for crop development due to the number of days of low sunshine.

As always, there are numerous Canada Day celebrations throughout the country, and our Town is no exception. With a new start time for the parade at 4 p.m. instead of 3 p.m. it is hoped all residents looking for a party will have attended Harold Black Park on Haist Street. Town staff and local service clubs came together to have the park jam-packed with activities.

The Emily Project, which was formed after a young girl passed away when emergency crews could not locate the farm field where the accident happened, recently added a new twist to the application process. Any rural Pelham land owner requesting a 911 number for their fields will have the application fee subsidized by Pelham Fire Department Station 3 volunteers. This is for a limited time only, so anyone contemplating applying for a number should do so sooner rather than later. When responding to any accident, time is everything and having a civic address at the entrance of a farm field could make all the difference.

I hope everyone had a great Canada Day!
