NEWS RELEASE
TOWN OF PELHAM
*************************
The Town of Pelham 2024 specialty camps are available to senior campers aged seven and up and include junior firefighter, biking, and sports camps. They are offered during select weeks during the summer camp season, from July 2 to Aug. 30.

The specialty summer camps run daily from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with extended care available. Each week, youth will experience the fun and adventure of camp with specific themed activities, games, swimming, presentations, and weekly trips geared to senior camp-aged youth. Specialty camps occur at facilities throughout Pelham, including the Meridian Community Centre, Old Pelham Town Hall, and other locations such as the pool and park spaces.

Specialty Camps with availability include:

  • Bike Camp is designed for beginner to intermediate youth cyclists and is led by an Ontario Cycling Instructor who will teach campers bike and road safety before building endurance and confidence as campers bike through Pelham using trails and road systems.
  • Jr. Firefighter Camp will provide campers with an interactive and unique opportunity to learn what it takes to be a Firefighter as they learn about fire safety and prevention, hose operation, search and rescue, fire extinguishers, ropes and knots, ground and aerial ladders, first aid, CPR and extrication with a trip to the St. Catharines Fire Station to learn about the dispatch center.
  • Sports Camp, new for 2024, gives campers the opportunity to learn new skills while being active and participating in soccer, baseball, tennis, pickleball, and more!
  • Music Camp provides a fun, creative and supportive environment for children as they learn about musical vocabulary, rhythm, and how to be a performer.

"Specialty camps are a great way for older camp-aged youth to experience new things and make new friends who share similar interests. The Town of Pelham camp staff are looking forward to creating great memories spent at camp!” said director of Recreation, Culture, and Wellness Vickie vanRavenswaay.

Registration is offered on a first-come, first-served basis and camps are limited to ensure the 1:7 staff-to-camper ratio is maintained. Town of Pelham camp staff have first aid and CPR certifications and receive additional camp-specific training with the Town including HIGH-FIVE. Pelham residents who may require financial assistance for camp can apply through Pelham Cares if they meet eligibility requirements.

An additional opportunity for older youth is the leader-in-training (LIT) camp offered for campers 13+, which provides participants with an opportunity to work with campers and build their confidence and leadership potential in a camp setting. Over the course of one week, the leader-in-training participants will assist with the camp groups, learning how to lead games, helping with crafts and facilitating activities. Two leader-in-training spaces are available each camp week to offer youth the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with younger children.
