Youngsters on a school bus ride on the first day of class got a real-life lesson this morning – don't speed!
Niagara Regional Police in 1 District (Thorold/St. Catharines) say they pulled over a packed school bus that they allege was doing more than 20 km/h over the speed limit.
The bus appeared to be a mini-bus, with a capacity of around 15 students.
"Officers in @NRPS1District stopped a bus full of schoolchildren this morning doing 72 km/h in a 50 km/h zone," police said in a Tweet, "and charged the driver accordingly."
Today is Niagara Regional Police Service's Traffic Safety and Awareness Day. Held annually, the day sees senior officers and those who work in specialty units put on their uniforms and head out to the local school zones, according to the NRPS.
The focus is 13 community safety zones near schools in Niagara.
