"This is a major win for the residents of Port Colborne and all of Niagara. This is something we can all be proud of. Not only will this approximately $1.6 billion investment generate countless good-paying jobs, it will position Port Colborne and the Niagara Region as a key player in the green economy of the future.
We must give credit to all levels of government especially the municipal government and the Niagara Economic Development Team, who I know have been tirelessly coordinating on this project for since July of 2023. Niagara Project Team partners include the City of Port Colborne, Saint Lawrence Seaway Corporation, Invest Ontario, Invest Canada and private sector partners.
In addition to the significant community benefits this will bring, we must also prioritize investments in our local healthcare centres, including the Port Colborne Urgent Care and Welland Hospital to ensure our communities thrive holistically."
