Pelham attends Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference

For the first time in two years, the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA), held its annual gathering in Toronto, where some 1,000 municipal participants gathered at a Sheraton Hotel between Sunday, Jan. 22 and Monday, Jan. 24, to meet with and lobby various Ontario ministries for their local needs.

Pelham Town Councillors Olson, Wink, and Hildebrandt, and Mayor Marvin Junkin, plus CAO David Cribbs were in attendance.

The group had three ministerial meetings to discuss concerns regarding hydro rates, the unified library experience and future library funding opportunities, and potential grant funding for the reconstruction of Quaker Road.

The attendees heard from the Premier of Ontario, in his first major address since the passage of the More Homes, Built Faster Act which has been so controversial in the municipal world because of its introduction of strict timelines, reduction in development charges and the increased difficulty in challenging developers through the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT).
