The electric atmosphere of the annual Steel Blade Classic returns to the Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.

The Steel Blade Classic, Brock University's premier Homecoming event, hits the ice this year Sept. 22 at the Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines, according to a news release.

Another full house of 5,000 or so is anticipated as the Badgers play host to the Guelph Gryphons. Tickets for the showdown are still available on ticketmaster.ca

"The Steel Blade Classic is a remarkable fusion of exhilarating hockey action and the vibrant spirit of our community, all set against the backdrop of an energized and electric atmosphere,” said Executive Director of Brock Sports and Recreation Melissa Krist. “This event is a celebration of Brock and Niagara’s shared heritage, a showcase of unwavering enthusiasm and a chance to forge lasting memories amid the camaraderie of friends, family and alumni.”

The pre-game Fan Fest, beginning at 4 p.m. outside the Meridian Centre will offer food options such as the signature Badger Bratwurst; face painting and games, such as cornhole and a puck-shooting contest; the sale of vintage Badgers’ hockey jerseys; refreshments from Niagara Oast House Brewers; and music by DJ Dave Stiles.

To make attending the event safe and convenient, Brock is providing shuttle buses running on a continuous loop to the Meridian Centre from the university’s main campus between 4:15 p.m. and 7 p.m., with return service at the end of the game. Buses will pick up passengers on campus at Quarry View, Vallee and Lowenberger residences, as well as in front of the Student-Alumni Centre near Isaac’s.

Brock graduates have exclusive access to purchase VIP tickets for the fourth floor VIP alumni section of the Meridian Centre. To purchase VIP tickets and register for other Homecoming events, visit brocku.ca/homecoming.

As part of Brock’s commitment to supporting the community, the University will donate $1 from each ticket sold to the Brock University Students' Union (BUSU) Food First Program. This program is a valuable resource for students and helps address the pressing issues of food and health insecurity among Canadian post-secondary students. In addition to the exciting hockey action on the ice, the concourse level of the Meridian Centre will feature booths from BUSU and the Brock Campus Store, offering fans a chance to connect with the University and purchase exclusive memorabilia.
