WELLAND – The Welland Jackfish defeated Brantford 12-7 Thursday night in a first-round playoff preview.
Steven Moretto hit a two-run home run for the first-place Jackfish (31-10). James Smibert went 3-for-5 with two RBI, Matteo Porcellato had two hits and drove in a pair of runs, Hogan Brown drove in a run and scored, Ethan Pasco had two hits and two runs, Greg Marco went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Ethan Hunt singled, doubled and scored.
Brandon Underhill (4-0) gave up two unearned runs on three hits over five innings of relief for the win. He struck out two.
Hayden Stam (0-1) took the loss for Brantford (8-31). He gave up four runs on five hits over 1.1 innings.
Offensively, Jeremie Veilleux drove in three runs on a pair of hits, Christian Kuzemka went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Cris Ruiz and Nick Burdett each had an RBI and Gus Wilson singled twice and scored twice.
