1939-2024

With sad hearts we announce the passing of our sweet mother at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the age of 84. Predeceased by her beloved husband George (2021).  Forever loved by her daughter Merry Peterson and son Fred Peterson.  Dear sister of Shirley (late Von) Corbaley, Nancy (Gene) Vadnais, and the late Marilyn (Larry) Hastings.

Missed by her sisters-in-law Ruby (late Glenn) Shirton and Shirley (Roger) Denchfield.  Nieces and Nephews: Donna, Eileen, David, Jeanette, Christine, Wendy, Pamela, Tim, Gene Jr. Raymond, James, and many great nieces and nephews.   Predeceased by her and George’s three infant sons, her parents, and parents in law, and her baby brother Floyd.

Born in Wenatchee Washington Rebecca spent her younger years enjoying their family ranch at the top of Horse Lake Rd.  She attended Wenatchee High School graduating in 1957 going on to pursue degrees in education from WVC, Central Washington University, and Oregon Bible College (Currently ABC).  She taught at Lewis & Clark Elementary, Whitman, South Wenatchee, and Washington schools as a primary teacher.  She met and married George after taking a tour of the Holy Lands.  Moving to Ontario she substitute taught within the Niagara School District, sold Avon, and volunteered with the Niagara Retired Teachers Association.  She enjoyed the farm life, raising her children, teaching youth Bible classes, gardening, reading and playing Scrabble.  She was a great cook and avid birdwatcher.  She was a dedicated member of the churches she attended encouraging and welcoming all with a smile; a devoted Bible student & prayer warrior.  She overcame more difficulties and struggles in this life than what most would have the courage to face and kept her faith.  Her quiet presence and gentle wisdom will be dearly missed.

We want to thank the staff on the oncology floor, the ICU unit team, & Walker Cancer center for their care and are grateful for the TLC and prayers from family & friends.

The family will be received by friends at the Pelham Funeral Home, 1292 Pelham St. Fonthill on Wednesday March 13th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  The funeral service to honor Rebecca’s life will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, March 14th at 11:00 am.  Internment will follow at Fonthill Cemetery.

Donations in memory can be made to Freedom In Christ Church (Welland) or Atlanta Bible College (McDonough, GA).  Condolences may be shared at www.pelhamfuneralhome.ca
