Drug bust nets trafficking charges for St. Catharines resident

In August 2023, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) Street Crime Detectives assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) commenced an investigation into the distribution of illegal drugs throughout the City of St. Catharines.

On Aug. 23, 2023, detectives received judicial authorization to execute a search warrant inside an apartment located on Page Street near Cross Street in the City of St. Catharines. As a result of the investigation, one suspect has been arrested and charged.

In total, 492 grams of suspected fentanyl, 400 suspected hydromorphone pills, 3.9 grams of suspected cocaine, and one taser was seized. In addition, detectives also seized $210 of Canadian currency believed to have been acquired through the proceeds of crime.

Kory James Edwin Johnson (38 years) of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:
    •    Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
    •    Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking
    •    Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000

Johnson remains in police custody.  He is scheduled to attend a bail hearing later today (Aug. 24, 2023) via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church St. in the City of St. Catharines.
