It wasn’t a very nice Christmas for Habitat for Humanity Niagara as the week before the holidays their build trailer was stolen from the parking lot at the Fonthill ReStore.

The trailer was purchased for the charity in 2016 through the support of the Rotary Clubs of Welland and Fonthill, which highlights the collaborative effort that goes into such charitable endeavours.

“It’s disheartening that someone would target an organization dedicated to helping others,” said Mark Carl, Habitat Niagara CEO. “Losing a vital piece of equipment like this trailer will undoubtedly impact our ability to carry out essential work in supporting the community.”

Video shows the thief cutting the chain lock on the entry gates to the Fonthill ReStore and driving his black pick-up truck to the back of the store to grind off the wheel lock, hook up the trailer and drive away.

Local authorities have been contacted and are actively investigating the theft. The community’s awareness and support may play a crucial role in assisting Habitat Niagara locate the trailer during this challenging time. The trailer was wrapped in Habitat branded images with the license plate number W26 36M.
