Man, 77, dies after collision on Grantham Avenue in St. Catharines

Police say driver of Dodge Caliber sustained serious injuries after crashing into tree

On December 28th, 2023, at 4:09pm Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) responded alongside Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics and members of the St. Catharines Fire & Emergency Services for a serious motor vehicle collision on Grantham Avenue north of Scott Street, in the City of St. Catharines.

Upon arrival, officers determined a collision occurred involving a black 2009 Dodge Caliber and a tree located alongside Grantham Avenue.  As a result of the collision, the driver of the Dodge Caliber, a 77 year old male resident of St. Catharines sustained serious injuries. Despite on-scene lifesaving measures by emergency services personnel, the driver was pronounced deceased after being transported to a local hospital by paramedics.

Detectives assigned to the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit have assumed carriage of the investigation. They are being supported by detectives from the NRPS Forensic Services Unit. The circumstances related to the cause of the collision remain under investigation.
