Man assaulted, stabbed in fight in downtown St. Catharines

Police say a man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries

Police say a man in his 20s was taken to hospital after being beaten and stabbed in an altercation in downtown St. Catharines on Canada Day.

On July 1 at 2:20 a.m., emergency crews responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of St. Paul Street and Garden Park near Carlisle Street.

A male victim in his 20s was found suffering serious injuries from a physical beating and having been stabbed, police said in a news release.

The victim was treated at the scene and transported to hospital by Niagara EMS for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Officers from 1 District (St. Catharines / Thorold) from the Niagara Regional Police Service along with an NRPS K9 Unit attended the scene.

An initial investigation determined the victim had an argument with a group people in front of a nightclub on James Street near St. Paul Street.

The argument escalated into a physical fight in the area of St. Paul Street and Garden Park. The fight continued to the front doors of a nearby hotel on St. Paul Street near Carlisle Street.

That's when two male suspects ran from the area.

Officers were unable to find the suspects. The suspects are both males, one is white, one is Black, according to police.

Residents or businesses in the area with security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cams are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 1:45 a.m. and 3 a.m. on July 1.
