Niagara Falls woman charged in human trafficking investigation

In March 2024, the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Human Trafficking Unit commenced an investigation into the trafficking of a person over the age of 18 years.

As a result of the investigation, a female suspect known as “Candy” was identified. On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Hung Mei Wong (56 years) of Niagara Falls, was arrested by Human Trafficking Detectives. Wong has been transported to the NRPS Prisoner Management Unit in Niagara Falls and is facing the following Criminal Code charges: 

  • Trafficking in persons by recruiting
  • Procuring
  • Material benefit from sexual services
  • Financial/material benefit from trafficking person over 18 years
  • Advertising another person’s sexual services 

Wong is being held in custody pending a video bail hearing, which is expected to take place on May 9, 2024 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines. 

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives suspect there may be more victims. Anyone who may have more information is asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009717.
