Investigation has determined, the male youth who alleged he was assaulted for not surrendering his running shoes to a group of four unknown teenagers lied to responding officers about what had actually transpired. After interviewing witnesses who came forward as a result of the initial media release, detectives have concluded a robbery did not take place.

The male youth was arrested by detectives for the Criminal Code offence of Public Mischief and released unconditionally (without charge) as an extrajudicial measure, in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
