St. Catharines resident charged with sexually abusing a child

The investigation began in January after police received a report of an alleged child sexual assault at a commercial plaza

In January 2023, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) detectives assigned to the Child Abuse Unit (CAU) commenced an investigation into an alleged child sexual assault that occurred at a commercial business located in a plaza near the intersection of Hartzel Road and Rockwood Avenue, in the City of St. Catharines.

As a result of the investigation, Abdulmagid Omar Masoud (33 years) of St. Catharines was arrested on Feb. 2, 2023, and is charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age
  • Sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age
  • Expose genitals to a person under 16 years of age for a sexual purpose

Detectives believe this to be an isolated incident between an adolescent youth and Masoud.

Masoud is being held for a bail hearing scheduled to take place later today (Feb. 3, 2023) via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
