Violent bar assault sees four charged

On Oct. 11, 2023, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers met with a male victim in his 40s regarding an assault incident in St. Catharines.

The initial investigation determined that on Oct. 11, 2023, at 2:15 a.m. the victim had been in Canucks Ale House located on Carlton Street in St. Catharines. The victim was standing along the bar and began a conversation with two people (man and woman) standing near him. Within a minute the man suddenly punched the victim in the face and two other men joined in punching the victim. The victim fell to the floor and was repeatedly kicked, stomped, punched, and had a bar stool thrown at him. Despite the victim being knocked unconscious he continued to be assaulted. The suspects eventually fled from the bar.

While the victim lay unconscious on the floor an unknown female bar patron approached him, removed his wallet and stole approximately $300 cash.

The Niagara Regional Police Service and Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics were not called at the time of the incident. The victim sought medical treatment for his serious injuries and is recovering at home.

The investigation was assigned to the 1 District detective office. As result of the investigation all four suspects have been identified.

On Dec. 23, 2023, Christopher William Redmond (37 yrs.) of St. Catharines was arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • assault cause bodily harm
  • fail to comply with a release order

Redmond was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on December 24, 2023. Redmond was remanded in custody and is scheduled for bail court on Dec. 27, 2023.

On Dec. 24, 2023, Taylor Timothy Roy Cronkwright (31 yrs.) of St. Catharines and Brooklyn Kyle Mayer (29 yrs.) of St. Catharines surrendered to detectives at the NRPS headquarters in Niagara Falls.

Cronkwright has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offence of:

  • assault cause bodily harm

Mayer has been arrested and charged with the Criminal Code offences of:

  • assault cause bodily harm
  • aggravated assault

Cronkwright and Mayer were held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Dec. 24, 2023. They were subsequently ordered released with future court dates.

On Dec. 26, 2023, Shevon Tamara Sadler (29 yrs.) of St. Catharines was arrested for the Criminal Code offence of:

  • theft under $5,000

Sadler was released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date.
