PelhamToday received the following letter about the town's April 1 news that it was converting all finances to cryptocurrency.
Re your April 1 article about the Town of Pelham to converting all finances to cryptocurrency: you got me. April Fuelles did a great job outlining a preposterous, unworkable, illegal scenario in which residents would be obliged to fork over cryptocurrency like bitcoin to pay taxes and other charges by the town. Presumably our tax and other bills stated in bitcoin terms world go up and down like yo-yos.
I was getting ready to quote some of the views Dr. Mark Carney expressed on p105-108 in his book VALUE(S) on cryptocurrencies and stable coins. I was going to refer to the Currency Act on what constitutes legal tender in Canada. I had looked up the bank of Canada's work on cryptocurrencies. I was planning to insist on the town sticking with legal tender. Then I heard this giant sucking sound as I was being taken in - it finally dawned on me that I'd been had!
Good scam. I'll beware of April first next year!
