LETTERS: The bloom is off for these neighbours

Tulip traffic ticks off locals, say readers

PelhamToday received the following letters to the editor regarding visitors attending the TASC tulip attraction on Sixteen Road:

In response to the tulip farm fiasco, I live down the road from it and our quiet road is now busier than Hwy 20 and never mind that I was stuck in a traffic jam going by the farm.  The flag man was stopping traffic on Sixteen Road to allow cars to come out of the field. How nice is that for a taxpayer in the area.  I hope the Junkin family is getting a lot of money for this, because many in the neighbourhood are not happy. And they deserve all the negative comments and criticism that is directed at him.

In regards to the tulip farm traffic jam on Sixteen Rd on Saturday, May 4, I can't say I blame Marv Junkin, but I do hope he keeps it in mind when considering leasing the field for next year.

At times Saturday afternoon traffic was backed up past Balfour Street and while I did see a few buses heading in that direction I find it absurd that in an era where we are constantly bombarded with messages of "leave the car at home" people from outside the area, (judging from the photos I saw in PelhamToday), drove some distance to pick tulips.

I get that for a few weeks they provide local jobs and hopefully the out-of-towners enjoyed a meal at a local establishment, but I will be glad when it's over.
