Crossing guard seriously injured when struck in St. Catharines

The 79-year-old woman was taken to an out-of-region hospital with what are believed to be serious but non-life threatening injuries

A crossing guard was seriously injured when she was struck by a pick up truck in St. Catharines on the first day of school.

Emergency crews were called to the corner of Haig and Carlton streets at around 3:15 p.m.

They say the 79-year-old woman had been standing on the corner when she was hit by a grey 2020 Ford F150. 

“The crossing guard was subsequently trapped under the Ford,” said Niagara Regional Police Service in a news release. 

“Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and St. Catharines Fire service personnel worked to free the crossing guard.”

She was taken to an out-of-region hospital with what are believed to be serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Ministry of Labour has been notified.
