PelhamToday received the following reader letter in reaction to a recent collision in Fonthill:

This is a criminal reckless driving incident. Eastbound on Pancake Lane and hitting the residence’ roof means very high speed was involved. I do hope you do a follow-up piece and name the driver and state the real cause of the incident. I walk past the house every day.

I live on Forest Hill Cr.  Nearly 40 years now. Wonderful job of reconstruction of Pelham Street finished last year. The speed of southbound cars in the middle of the night has skyrocketed. Some I estimate are doing easily 150 km plus.  I have driven many fast vehicles and motorcycles. My guesstimate is accurate. Speeding will lead to a nasty death in this growing town. Just a matter of time.

Rarely see a police car in recent years.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Police almost never identify drivers by name in incidents such as the four that have occurred in recent months very close to each other along Welland Road and now Haist Street. Speed and stop sign enforcement seem to have virtually disappeared in Pelham over the last five or six years, something that Mayor Junkin addressed with NRPS Chief MacColluch back in July, a request for help that evidently fell on deaf ears.
